Brighton could look for more experience in January transfer window
Brighton Consider Adding Leadership Experience in January Transfer Window #
Brighton & Hove Albion may look to add more leadership experience to their squad in the January transfer window. The team missed out on signing Mats Hummels in the summer, as the former German international moved to Roma instead.
The Seagulls have faced challenges with several experienced players sidelined by injuries this season, including Lewis Dunk, James Milner, Joel Veltman, and Adam Webster. This has left the squad short on experience to close out games, especially following Pascal Gross’s move to Borussia Dortmund.
In a recent match against Leicester, Brighton fielded their youngest Premier League lineup of the season, with an average age of 24 years and 85 days. The team led 2-0 until the 86th minute before settling for a 2-2 draw.
Head coach Fabian Hurzeler emphasized the importance of balancing team players, leaders, and individuals. He noted that when the structure is not perfect on the pitch, the team might struggle to manage games effectively or face difficult periods in the season.
Hurzeler also stressed the club’s approach of giving young players the chance to grow as leaders. He mentioned Jack Hinshelwood, Jan Paul van Hecke, and Bart Verbruggen as examples of young players with leadership potential who need opportunities to develop.
The coach acknowledged the need to find the right balance between adding experienced players and nurturing young talent. He emphasized that it’s not just about tactics and match plans, but also about having the right hierarchy and structure within the team.
Brighton’s recent form has dipped, with only two points taken from their last three games against Southampton, Fulham, and Leicester. The team currently sits in seventh place in the Premier League.
As Brighton prepares to face Crystal Palace, Joel Veltman remains doubtful for the match. Jan Paul van Hecke is set to make his 50th Premier League appearance for the club, though he needs to avoid a fifth booking in the next four matches to escape a one-game ban.
